Alan Wong (November 2024)

City College Board of Trustees

We’re excited to endorse Alan Wong for City College Board. As a former City College student and recipient of the low-income tuition waiver, Alan knows firsthand the benefits of having access to free higher education especially for low-income students. As an education policy advisor at City Hall, Alan drafted legislation that made City College free for 10 years for all San Francisco residents. When he was Co-Chair of the Free City College Oversight Committee, Alan led a winning fight for City Hall to provide over $2 million to cancel student debt and make City College reachable to more students. In 2022, he was the sole vote against cuts to 300 classes and 176 teachers that left students without options to complete their courses needed to transfer or get an AA degree, while the rest of the Board voted for the cuts.

At SF Rising Action Fund, we believe all students deserve free higher education without being punished for trying to learn by being buried by a mountain of debt. With Alan’s impressive track record for low-income students and his strong support of free City College, we know he will continue doing great work for students in his next term.
