Connie Chan (November 2024)

District 1 Supervisor

SF Rising Action Fund is proud to announce our endorsement for Connie Chan for District 1 Supervisor. Supervisor Chan has extensive knowledge in local government and community organizing. She has organized with the Community Youth Center and served as a legislative aide for former San Francisco Supervisors, the DA, and a California Assemblymember. As a Chinese immigrant herself, we know that Supervisor Chan will continue to be a leader for working-class and immigrant families in District 1. In her first term, Supervisor Chan prioritized public safety for all, supporting tenants and small property landlords, protecting workers, and expanding access to public transportation.

Some of her notable accomplishments include:

  • Creating 100% affordable housing for seniors at 4200 Geary
  • Advocating for SFMTA to install safety improvements in District 1 where our neighbors have been injured, like protected bicycle lanes
  • Co-sponsoring the first Union-At-Home legislation to allow tenant organizing activities in buildings with five or more rental units after tenants raised concerns about corporate landlords refusing to negotiate rent relief or tenant rights issues during the pandemic
  • As Budget Chair, she worked hard to ensure that Single Room Occupancy (SRO) housing, community farms, tenant counseling, and many other social services remained intact for immigrant, low-income, and communities of color, all in the face of a record deficit

Supervisor Chan’s plans for a second term would add on to the positive change she has already made in Term 1, including expanding tenants’ rights by adding on to the Union-At-Home ordinance so tenants can more easily form a union. Supervisor Chan will also bring a get-it-done approach to addressing public safety concerns by looking at real solutions to curb crime rather than just playing politics and pointing the finger. She knows we need to find compassionate and sustainable solutions to address crime so everyone, not just a select few, feel safe in San Francisco. As the only Asian American member of the Board of Supervisors, Supervisor Chan will continue fighting for inclusive our city services with cultural and language competency. Supervisor Chan will also prioritize building more affordable housing after hearing from residents that while there has been development of market-rate housing, more affordable housing is needed for students, elders, and working families. With all the work Supervisor Chan has done for her community in just her first term, we can’t wait to see what she will accomplish in her next four years in office!
