Edward Wright (November 2024)

BART Board District 9

Edward Wright has years of experience working in San Francisco’s local government and political organizing. He was the chief of staff to former Supervisor, Gordon Mar, and the head of the Harvey Milk LGBTQ Democratic Club.

If elected, Edward plans to prioritize expanding BayPass – universal, fare-free transit passes – to reach as many riders as possible. He also wants to increase contracts with colleges to make BART more accessible for students. Edward wants people riding BART to have better experiences, including better public safety by improving coordination between service providers and expanding the BART police ambassador program. BART police ambassadors are unarmed, use de-escalation tactics, and connect people to services; this way, BART police officers can focus on addressing violent crime.

Public transportation is relied on by working-class people and low-income families to get to where they need to go: work, school, to see friends or loved ones, or to enjoy our beautiful city. Public transportation is also better for our environment, taking individual cars off the road and minimizing our carbon footprint. It’s critical that we elect people like Edward Wright to make sure that BART can not only keep running, but that we expand access to community members who benefit the most from public transportation.
